This course aims to build on the skills developed in the Intro to Impro course (although students can enroll in this course without prior study).
By the end of this course students will have devised a short ensemble piece using improvisation, storytelling, movement, mime and music, simple costumes/props – This showing will incorporate elements of drama such as – focus & tension, contrast, time & space, mood & symbol, timing, and structure.
To assist the development of the idea or topic students may choose to use stimulus materials that may include art works; stories such as legends, myths and science fiction; music; documents such as reports, autobiographies, interviews and documentaries.
The focus of the course is on 'making' Drama (although the course will culminate in Performing the devised piece). Making involves workshopping concepts, ideas and experiences through enquiry, research, analysis, and experimentation. Students have fun and learn experientially. The skills developed though making, performing and critically studying drama and theatre are valuable 21st century skills.
This course is suitable for older children with some prior experience in Drama but all classes will be tailored to the needs and skill level of the participants.
