Students will use different strategies to add and subtract fractions.
Description
Students will learn the rules for adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators and demonstrate comprehension through examples. Next we will focus on adding and subtracting fraction, this time with unlike denominators. Towards the end, we will covered the sum and difference of mixed numbers. The purpose of this lesson is to introduce, practice and extend. Students will leave the lesson with detailed notes organized in a manner that they will be able to come back to them for any future assignments they might have.

As a formal student I know that math is a complicated subject for many of us. I know exactly what made me struggle and now that I teach it myself I know what exactly goes through my students' mind. I know what it feels like to be confused but I also know how to help a student understand a mathematical process. Teaching math is my biggest passion because math is everywhere around us and understanding it makes life easier. I will teach math in the simplest possible way to make my students feel welcome and also to make them feel special and capable of mastering any topic. I know that students have the potential to learn anything, it is the teacher's responsibility to discover students' strengths and help them overcome their weaknesses.
