Art with the Masters
Come make connections between art history, art appreciation, and most importantly art creation! Learn art through studying the masters in a variety of art genres and creating your own artwork to mimic the style!
Description
This class is all about making connections between art history, art appreciation, and most importantly art creation. Each week we will learn about an artist and their life. We will incorporate history, geography, and the social, political, and spiritual ideology that contributed to the artists' work. Students will look at a variety of artwork by the week's artist and discuss the techniques and materials used as well as the art genre the artist falls into. Finally, students will create a piece of artwork that imitates the style, techniques, or subject matter of each artist.
Each class will begin with a short 15-20 minute presentation about the life and work of an artist. And the pièces de résistance: Students will be guided through the creation of their own, original artwork that imitates the style, techniques, or subject matter of the artist.
I introduce students to different art tools and materials and encourage them to experiment. This experimentation gives students new and innovative ways of seeing art and gives them the chance to try unique techniques.
*Some parental assistance required depending on the age and maturity of the student(s).
All projects are designed to fit within the allotted class time, but depending on the attention to detail and interest of the student(s), some classes run over while others can run short. We rarely run over/short more than 10-15 minutes and always makeup in our average.

Learning Goals
- The goals of this class are to expose students to a wide variety of different artists and their artwork from around the world and to learn to create an art piece of their own with that week's artist in mind. This class covers history, geography, politics, and religion all within the scope of the artist we are studying that week. Students are also exposed to a variety of different art materials, styles, concepts and techniques as we work through guided projects.

Hi there!
I am currently a homeschooling, blogging, graphic designing, fun-loving mom of 4 with lots of teaching experience. I am a Jane of all trades with a passion for writing, art and art history, science, and web design. Prior to my homeschool career, I followed many different career paths that helped me to gain valuable experience in many different fields. I was an accountant, human resources manager, market manager, social media marketing guru, and copy editor. I have a degree in Graphic Design, Economics, and Agricultural Business and Environmental Science. I guess you might say I just love learning!
Now I own my own web design studio, Little Daisy Media, and have the great honor of homeschooling 3 of my kids (my oldest is an adult and has graduated college). I love fostering a love of learning in my kids, helping them to find their passions. Along with teaching my own kiddos, I teach Art in the Park monthly for my local homeschool group as well as teach a variety of classes every semester at my homeschool co-op.
I truly believe that learning should be fun first because if we enjoy learning, we will always find opportunities to do it. I encourage creative freedom so kids' work will be relevant to their lives, and they will connect with what they are learning.
When I am not teaching, I blog about my family's homeschooling journey on PatersonAcademy.com. I also enjoy reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, cooking, binge-watching TV shows, and being silly. See? Jane of all trades.

Karmen has taught my daughter patiently about each artist’s background and make sure there are interesting facts for my daughter to remember. Then she moved forward with creating art that relates to the artists. This is a fun crash course for kids to learn about famous artists, their style, and their work quickly. She also uses a variety of art techniques which expose kids to the art world! Highly recommend!
